Winter months

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

As you do in the winter months over here Clare and I were visiting Vobster this weekend to go diving and we ran into some fellow DIR-X members – David and Joe.

Snapped a couple of pics of the guys and it was nice to catch up. Despite the cold they were both smiling – might have been the prospect of scootering. Clare and I had fun and I’m really loving the DUI Zip seal dry gloves. Only 2nd weekend using them and I’m finding them as easy to use as my 5mm Kevlar gloves but massively warmer.

Dry Gloves

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

Well it’s definitely winter and with lots of days in quarries to look forward to I’ve been getting a bit cold. After the YD freeze your bits off gig I was finding I was just too cold after 55 minutes in 6 degress so I decided to try dry gloves. I was a bit aprehensive as some years ago I severed the nerves in my left hand (plate glass window on a dive boat) and have bad sensation. I struggle sometimes with clips and can get a bit frustrated hence I’ve stayed using scubapro 5mm semi-dry gloves for some time now.

Anyway on Clare’s advice I’ve got hold of a pair of DUI zip seal dry gloves

Clare fitted them to me suit and we went for a dive. I have to say the difference was phenomenal. We managed close to 90 minutes in the same water temperature and all I could easily have stayed in for quite a bit longer. I also found the loss of sensation I was worried about no worse than than the 5mm kelvar gloves and as my hands didn’t get cold I found my dexterity was actually better for the whole dive.

So big thumbs up for dry gloves, even if you’ve a lousy sense of touch to start with!
