Video diver for GUE Fundamentals

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

Often it’s nice to feel you are putting something back into a community that’s helped you. On my fundamentals class one of the video divers helped convince me to stick with it when I was really struggling. When I can I end up helping Clare by videoing her fundamentals classes.

Being a good video diver can actually be quite challenging. Getting the video in the right place so you can catch the action can really test your buoyancy, back-kick and helicopter turns. You have to set an example in the water at the same time so you need to ensure you show a level of skill in water i.e. maintain trim and buoyancy, for this reason I know Clare looks for Tech or Cave training if someone wants to help.
The other tasks that can also come into play are around helping the class to run smoothly. I sometimes end up sorting fills, fixing bits of kit etc. I know most people who go along as a video diver find the class is a different experience when you aren’t a student. Worth doing if you get an opportunity.
